JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – A news article posted on news4jax.com reports that city officials placed two new “Wrong Way” signs at the entrance ramp of the Hart Bridge over the weekend. The signs were added to the entrance ramp as a result of a fatal wrong-way collision that tragically killed two Jacksonville residents last week. According to the report, the signs were added due to the victim’s family speaking out about the dangerous entrance ramp. Their loved one was tragically killed by a JTA bus.

The sisters of the victim stated that they feel their loved one’s death was a senseless tragedy and the construction taking place at the Hart Bridge makes it dangerous for motorists. They stated that the entrance near TIAA Bank Field is very complex and confuses drivers who may take a wrong turn and end up heading the wrong way along the bridge. The victim’s sisters stated that she felt it was an honest mistake and that any driver could have made the same mistake.

According to the news report, the city has not issued a comment. However, the city has made some signage changes last week.

Mayor Lenny Curry stated that his “heart goes out to the family,” and he was not familiar with the accident details except that a life was lost.

The state’s Department of Transportation maintains the Hart Bridge. The fatal accident is currently under investigation. Drug and alcohol use has been ruled out in the crash. Blood-alcohol test results are pending. The Florida Highway Patrol is urging witnesses of the accident to contact Crime Stoppers. The fatal pedestrian collision is currently under investigation.
